The main constituent of pineapple is bromelain contained primarily within the stem. This proteolytic enzyme provides a beneficial action on digestion and its famous anti-ademigenous function on the bloodstream. Pineapple also contains water, proteins, lipids, vitamins, mineral salts and organic acid.

The pineapple is the symbol of Hawaii, even though it doesn't originate from there. Considered a good omen, it was hung in front of homes to welcome people.
Native to South America, it was exported to Europe at the start of the 1700s. However, it has now found its most productive habitat in Hawaii, where it was exported in the early 1800s.
