Cinnamon

Regulates blood sugar and cholesterol levels, favours digestion.
Cinnamon is rich in polyphenols that reduce blood sugar levels and have a great antioxidant power (more than 60 times that of apple). Its active ingredient is cinnamaldehyde, which can promote the body's defences. It can lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, alleviating the effects of hypertension.

It is obtained from the inner bark of a small evergreen tree typical of Sri Lanka, around 15 metres tall, with opposite long oval shaped leaves. The tree, also introduced into other tropical countries of Asia, was already used by the Egyptians for embalming.
